Help Finish the Home of Hope in Estonia
Joshua 4 – our witness of God's faithfulness for generations to come
Story
A Story of Faith and Trust
In 1992, just after the collapse of the Soviet Union, Pastor Eenok Haamer, stood at a crossroads.
During 50 years of atheistic Soviet occupation, theological education in Estonia had been heavily restricted, and the future of the Church felt fragile. He faced a difficult decision: whether to take the risk of establishing the Tartu Academy of Theology (TAT) and begin training pastors and Christian leaders once again.
The future was uncertain, resources were limited, and the responsibility felt overwhelming.
A pastor friend from Finland encouraged Eenok with simple but powerful words: “Step into the water.” He pointed to the story of Joshua, crossing the Jordan River with Israel:
"This is how you will know that the living God is among you... as soon as the priests who carry the ark of the Lord... set foot in the Jordan, its waters flowing downstream will be cut off and stand up in a heap." (Joshua 3:10,13)
Trusting God, Pastor Eenok Haamer stepped into the water—and TAT was born.
The Journey Continues
Twenty-six years later, in the summer of 2018, Pastor Siimon Haamer, son of Eenok, stood at a similar crossroads. He hesitated to sign a contract of over $2 million to build Home of Hope, a Christian outreach center in Estonia, the country that is one of the most secular ones in the world.
There were no financial guarantees for the project. Siimon trusted God and felt deep responsibility to secure continuity for the work his father had begun.
The story of Joshua echoed now in Siimon’s heart. It was his time to step into the water.
By the end of 2019, Home of Hope opened its doors. Although a significant loan remained, with the help of faithful friends, we continued forward step by step, crossing the river together.

A Testimony of God's PROMISES
We are now in the last stretch—the final campaign that brings this story to completion and takes us to the finish line.
Inspired by Joshua 4, we will set up a memorial of twelve stones at Home of Hope—bearing witness to God’s faithfulness and His Promises for generations to come.
God said to Joshua:
"Choose twelve men… and tell them to take up twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan… so that all the peoples of the earth might know that the hand of the Lord is powerful." (Joshua 4:2-3,24)
From now on,
For every $30,000 paid off – one stone will be placed on the memorial – until twelve stones stand.
Recognizing donors in this campaign:
For every gift of $2,000 or more, one of our volunteers will bring and set a small commemorative stone at the base of the memorial in the donor's name. These stones honor all who have helped to establish Home of Hope—a unique center that strengthens and empowers Christian proclamation, with impact reaching across the entire nation.
In addition, the names of all donors will be permanently recorded on Home of Hope’s Thank You Wall.
Join the Journey and Bear Witness
This is your last chance to take your place in the story–join the journey by praying, giving and bearing witness to God’s faithfulness.
Let's finish establishment of Home of Hope and walk together to the other shore of the river, bearing witness for generations to come that God is faithful and that He keeps His PROMISES.

How the memorial stones are placed
Once a stone’s $30,000 goal is reached, a Home of Hope volunteer, staff member, or a descendant of Pastor Eenok Haamer will travel to collect that stone—and we will document the entire journey. The story will be shared on our website as a video update.
When the stone is set in place, we will read the names of everyone who helped “pick up” that stone—recorded in the video as part of the dedication.
In addition, the names of all donors will be permanently recorded on Home of Hope’s Thank You Wall.
These stones will come from beautiful and meaningful places all across Estonia. In this way, the memorial will—quite literally—carry the whole nation within it, standing as a visible sign of God’s faithfulness and the fulfillment of His promises.

Promises of Guidance — Donors
Joshua 3:3
- ...
Promises of Guidance
Joshua 3:3
Israel’s path was not shaped by strategy, but by trust in the Lord. God seldom reveals the whole map—He grants the next faithful step. This stone honors the God who faithfully guides those who remain close to Him.
Promises of Consecration
Joshua 3:5
Before God makes a way around us, He often prepares a way within us. Consecration is the choice to belong to God with an undivided heart. This stone reminds us that readiness does not earn God’s help—it’s how we make room to recognize His wonders.
Promises of Assurance
Joshua 3:7
God strengthens His people by confirming His faithful leadership in their midst. Assurance is God’s kindness to anxious hearts: a steady word that says, “You are not alone, and this calling is no illusion.” This stone reminds us that God upholds obedience with His promise of presence and continuity.
Promises of Courage
Joshua 3:8
In Joshua, courage is not confidence in outcomes—it is obedience at the edge of risk. God calls His servants to stand where fear would normally reign, trusting that His command carries His power. This stone honors the faithful step taken solely because God has spoken.
Promises of Presence
Joshua 3:10–11
The heart of the crossing is not the riverbed, but the reality that the Living God is among His people. His presence is the foundation beneath every promise—God Himself with us. This stone ensures that Home of Hope remains more than a building; it marks the deeper testimony that God Himself has been present, leading and sustaining the mission.
Promises of Provision
Joshua 3:17
God provided more than momentary relief—He provided what was needed to bring the work to completion. His care is neither partial nor fleeting; it is sustaining, tangible, and timely. This stone bears witness to the “dry ground” He provides—step by step—until the task is finished and every burden is lifted.
Promises of Obedience
Joshua 4:8
In Joshua 4, obedience moves beyond inward conviction into visible action that endures. Israel obeyed, and the ordinary act of carrying stones became a generational witness. This stone mirrors our campaign’s call: faithful friends lifting a tangible piece of the story, so that the completed mortgage rests as a visible testimony of God’s faithful provision.
Promises of Strength
Joshua 4:10
Here, strength is revealed as steadfast endurance. God gives grace not merely for the courageous beginning, but for remaining firm until the task is finished. This stone bears witness to the God who provides sustaining perseverance—the quiet, faithful strength to fulfill His calling.
Promises of Protection
Joshua 4:18
God held back the flood until His people were safely across—and only then did the waters return. Protection is not the removal of danger; it is God’s sovereign authority over its boundaries and timing. This stone bears witness that even what seems overwhelming remains subject to the Lord’s authority.
Promises of Hope
Joshua 4:19
The story does not end in the river; it ends on the other side. Hope rests in the assurance that God’s crossings lead to true arrival—to new ground and a new beginning. This stone proclaims that while God brings His people through, the completion of the mortgage is not simply a conclusion, but a threshold into a fresh season of ministry—a place to dwell, be strengthened, and advance in faith.
Promises of Faithfulness
Joshua 4:23
God links this miracle to an earlier one so that His character may be plainly seen: He is faithful across generations. What He has done before, He can do again, because His nature does not change. This stone anchors our trust in His unchanging heart: the same faithful God who carried the earlier steps will carry this final one.
Promises of Witness
Joshua 4:24
God instructed them to take up the stones so that the event would not fade with time—so children would ask and the nations would hear. A memorial transforms private help into public testimony: God is mighty, God is near, and God keeps His promises. This stone embodies the purpose of the whole memorial—bearing witness for generations to come.
Why we support Estonia mission
When I was in Estonia in 2019 I was able to see the beginning stages of construction of Home of Hope and got a tour with my hart hat on. And now I'm back here in 2024 and I can see the fulfillment of that dream and vision and all of the fruits that it is bearing, not just in Tartu, but all throughout Estonia and even beyond, throughout the world.
I began to support the mission in Estonia when I learned of the passion the Haamer family had for the Gospel, specifically the vision Pr. Eenok had for a place to provide pastoral training and care. I felt a great need to share the resources I have to support that ministry.
In Isaiah 6:8, Isaiah said to the Lord, “Here I am, send me.” Not all of us are physically able go into a foreign mission field, but we can respond to God’s call by supporting our brothers and sisters with our love, prayers, and financial support—for me it’s Estonia!
It has been a privilege and a joy to partner with TAT in the clear vision and direction set forth by Pastor Eenok Haamer.
Not only with our financial gifts, but also in the opportunities we continue to have working with short term teams serving alongside with many friends in Estonia! St Paul inspires our own hearts when he wrote, “We loved you so much we were delighted to share with you, not only the gospel of God, but our very lives as well, because you had become so dear to us!” (2Thess 2:8)
The foundation of the Haamer family, the Tartu Academy of Theology and especially Home of Hope is solidly based on faith in Jesus Christ. On this faith, a building to house this ministry was obtained. I personally believe in this evangelistic ministry and the need for solid and committed Christian teaching to help revive lost faith in Estonia. I have traveled with Siimon and listened to his presentation of the great need for the Estonia people to be reintroduced to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
This empowers me to help raise ministry-funds for this dynamic ministry.
Spirit of Hope Lutheran Church, from the very beginning of our existence, has partnered with TAT. In addition to seeing the tremendous need for the Great Commission to be carried out in Estonia, our congregation is also passionate about raising up pastors for Christ’s Church. The TAT raises up pastors with sound Lutheran theology who are passionate about delivering Jesus Christ to a people who desperately need to know of His love. The Home of Hope helps to spread that message throughout Estonia and beyond.
We are eager to support this mission for generations to come.
The fires of suffering can destroy faith or through the Spirit’s power refine and empower powerful witness. The spiritual suffering in Estonia destructive of faith was tragic. Seeing those refining fires shaping the witness of four generations of the Haamer family is a big part in moving my wife and I to give financially to keep this fire burning. The issue before any of us standing with them in spirit now is to fire a lasting spiritual revival.
Our generosity financially can be used by God to move new generations to be drawn to Jesus Christ through the witness of Home of Hope and the Tartu Academy of Theology. Jesus Christ is alive, and with his Father and the Spirit on the move in this place. We join with them in stoking the fires of rebirth and renewal.
